How can we apply this to composition pedagogy?

In order to be invested in the classroom community, students need to see the personal value in their efforts. Just as YogaGlo members benefit from regular yoga practice, composition students need to benefit from regular writing. Instructors should recognize student improvement over time, allow students to write about issues which interest them personally, and encourage students to submit their writing for publication.

Just as YogaGlo members enjoy doing yoga at home, students will benefit from the freedom to work in comfortable environments. This can mean allowing students time to complete drafts at home, encouraging them to reflect upon where they do their best work, helping them to find a work space conducive to writing, and creating a comfortable classroom environment.

The YogaGlo format could be used within the classroom to stream video of class activities and lectures. This would be useful for students who are unable to come to class, need reminders of what was discussed, and want to hear the material a second time. Students could log online, watch class videos, comment on them, and even save them for future reference. On a large enough scale, this could be a useful resource for an entire English Department. The videos from various classes across the Department could be available on a website similar to YogaGlo.

Just as YogaGlo videos can be stopped and restarted at any point, composition students should be allowed to learn at their own pace. They should also be encouraged to ask questions, have ideas and instructions repeated as needed, and engage in continual reflection and refresher activities.
